You said it well, Dave. In desperate times, people will be more inclined to try these, I am afraid.

Henrietta
You are correct about James' post and it was removed, it was not on topic.

The lack of clear understanding of the problem and the way that Auctiva continues to handle the problem is what has many of us concerned. Telling people to turn of security warnings is not the way to address a problem such as this.

I know that Auctiva will resolve the issue, they simply need to work better on communication as do we all.

@James
Give it a rest, this has nothing whatsoever to do with your reply. In fact, your reply is spam and I would have deleted it on my blog.

ON topic, this is a great pity. Auctiva has long provided useful services to eBay sellers at no monthly subscription cost, relying on income from anciliary services such as shipping and insurance for revenue.

Any site can get hacked, the way Auctiva appears to have handled it is less than reassuring, so the man is not a master of smoke and spin.

My advice, if you get a warning from any site using any browser, go away. If it is a site known to you, try again later.

Why is this being whipped into such a perfect storm? I am missing something here.

I run a board for a small group of folks to share tech and marketing ideas. We moderate to keep posts relevant and not a string of "thank you" or negatives. That helps make each thread a useful reference. So the benefits are:

1) idea sharing for our group which is geographically spread out
2) useful reference for items such as htaccess mods, articles on SEM, and writing for SEO
3) we plug our own projects there so it's just one more traffic channel

Putting lipstick on the pig is all well and good, but store items are well-hidden by eBay's incredible search engine, and their issues with googlebase prevent outside search engine exposure.

Putting money into style over substance can have its advantages, but it's usually a good idea to have your fundamentals working first.

Hey, Dave. Well said!

The reality is that under the "new" Stores, some Stores will break if people don't get them redesigned by eBay's deadline (end of March).

The reality is that design companies have sold sellers Stores that were non-compliant, and knew they were non-compliant. That pokes at my "I hate injustice" gene. :)

So while this is not Sky Is Falling, considering all the people who are NOW scrambling to meet tomorrow's deadline of no paper payments in listings, I think eBay sellers should look at not adopting changes so last minute! Don't wait until mid-March to make changes to your Store!

At this point, every eBay designer is going to be FORCED to be compliant because non-compliant designs will break. So anybody making it sound like there is only one company who is going to get Stores right is probably going a bit far. I do feel like my company has been one of very few to have built compliant Stores to this point, and I think that's been a selling point for us. Right now, we have many happy clients who don't have to worry about changing their Stores.

But at this point, compliance will no longer be as much of a selling point for us since everybody will have to be compliant. You might call it back to the level playing field for designers. ;)

Thanks again for putting it into perspective!

I believe it to be said that so much experienced talent is being lost. It creates a big question as to whether they will ever be able to recover even with the right changes to get ebay back on the right track.

Experienced talent is something that takes years to replace, not days. And as the talk seems to go, most predict that ebay only has days.

As a current ebay seller this just ads the continued bad decisions by the new ebay management. One good thing is that there are a number of good sites providing free ebay auction advertising and free ebay store advertising just like the one I use at http://www.storepromoter.info.

Go ahead and list your items there and find out for yourself. It drives traffic and ads to your google search placement!
